Alarm clock and calendar functions, built-in or external memory, wider format support and more interfaces are key features.
Digital photo frames are mostly made of TFT-LCD panels in sizes of 5.6in, 7in, 8in, 8.4in and 10.4in. Models available have built-in flash memory or card slots for CF, SD, MMC and MS for expandable memory. JPEG format is universally supported, although some models also support MPEG-4, DivX, AVI, M-JPEG, MP3 and WMA formats.
Mainstream models have 7in or 8in screens. These also typically integrate card reader, alarm clock and calendar functions. Connectivity is often achieved through a USB port. External memory card slots are also added.
Cosmetic designs and larger display sizes lead product trends. Some makers have come up with new models that feature MPEG-4 decoders, voice recorders and TV-out ports.
