Platform Runs on VideoCore(R) Applications Processor and Integrates Bluetooth(R), Wi-Fi(R), Power Management and FM Tuner Technologies for Portable Multimedia Device Development

The platform integrates all the hardware and software components required to build advanced multimedia devices into a single, modular design. The new reference design combines Broadcom’s proven Bluetooth®, Wi-Fi®, power management and FM tuner technologies, with a high performance Broadcom® VideoCore® applications processor, to provide a platform capable of playing the most demanding multimedia content. A complete board support package is included to ease software development and speed time-to-market. The new development platform will be demonstrated this week at 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
With the increasing popularity of portable music players, system developers must add communications and other features to differentiate their products from the competition, while still accommodating consumer demand. These new capabilities significantly increase the complexity of the system and create many new development and interoperability challenges that often force manufacturers to make compromises in their selection of individual components. Broadcom’s new development platform reduces design complexity by integrating a set of proven and interoperable industry leading components, designed to work together, and driven by a powerful VideoCore applications processor.

Announced today is the Broadcom BCM92820DK development platform that integrates all of the hardware and software components required for advanced multimedia devices and incorporates the Broadcom BCM2820 VideoCore applications processor, the Broadcom BCM4328 Wi-Fi transceiver, the Broadcom BCM2048 Bluetooth + FM transceiver and the Broadcom BCM59001 power management unit (PMU). The BCM92820DK development platform also features a high-resolution (VGA) Sharp LCD, a TV demodulator, as well as a wide range of expansion and debug facilities.
