Today Verizon Wireless began broadcasting TV service for cell phones in Midwestern and Western markets. Currently Verizon Wireless is charging $15 - $25 per month, and is initially offering broadcasts from eight networks. Verizon’s service, V Cast Mobile TV, requires customers to be equipped with a new handset capable of receiving both the broadcast signal and the standard cellular signal for calls and Internet access.
The eight 24-hour channels that are currently being broadcast include CBS Mobile, Comedy Central, ESPN, Fox Mobile, MTV, NBC 2Go, NBC News 2Go, and Nickelodeon. It is worth noting that while the channels will broadcast identical programming to its standard television broadcast counterparts, only some shows will be simulcast.
Markets of Verizon Wireless V Cast Service include Chicago, Ill., Dallas-Fort Worth, Tex., Denver, Col., Kansas City, Kan., Las Vegas, Nev., Minneapolis, Minn., New Orleans, Louis., and Seattle, Utah, amongst other smaller markets throughout the Midwest and Western regions of the US.
