One of the most recent PMPs released is the Linux-based Archos 704-WiFi. You can both browse the Net and view videos on its 7-inch screen that give you 800×480 resolution. Now after ample sampling time, critics are pouring in their ratings:
PC Magazine gives the 704 4 out of 5 stars. The screen, easy WiFi access and the Opera browser got top grades. Going against the 704 is its size and weight and the absence of an FM tuner.
Laptopmag also gives the 704 4 of 5. It dubs the Archos 704-WiFi the “best big-screen PMP money can buy” and calls Archos the “reigning King of PMPs.” Laptop magazine is not as impressed about the web browsing capabilities of the 704 noting the delay between the input and action and the lack of Flash support.
CNET gives the 704 a 7.4 or “very good” rating. CNET likes the video playback, the user-friendly UI, easy WiFi connectivity and fast file transfers. The Opera browser is not stable enough for CNET when it tested complex sites like CNET.com and CNN.com
Not all features of the Archos 704-WiFi have been covered by the reviewers including the camcorder function and thephoto storage capabilities.
