CeBIT 2007 - European Commission official Viviane Reading pushed for a single standard for mobile TV in Europe. Large-scale trials are already being done across the world for mobile TV but during her address Ms Reading admitted she was disppointed to the CeBIT delegates. “The industry should agree on one standard,” she said. “I think there’s no more time to lose here. In the end I could mandate the standard but I do not want to do that.” Ms Reding had this power because of the European Mobile Broadcasting Council (EMBC), which was helped set up by the European Commission. The Telecoms Commissioner singled out DVB-H. DVB-H is already oin wide use n 17 EU countries and Reading was more than willing to recommend it to the EMBC. Reading set a deadline to all European mobile TV players on the summer of 2007. I hope they agree because I would really not like to intervene with regulatory measures,” she said.
