According to iSuppli Corp. Global, the portable media player market is going to double from $14 billion in 2005 to $20.6 billion in 2010.
- Global PMP/MP3 player shipments will go up to 268.6 million units in 2011 at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 13% from 128.7 million units in 2005
- In 2007, PMP shipments are expected to rise to 216.9 million units, up 21.8% from 178.1 million in 2006.
The growth is due to the rise of Internet access, especially in the high-speed broadband market. Broadband subscribers, says iSuppli, will grow from 507 million to 883 million in 2011. Broadband paid video market will grow from $300 million last year to a whopping $4.5 billion in 2010. Music will have a more meagre growth from $1.6 billion to $5 billion at that same time frame
