GenerationMP3 has an impassioned plea on video for all Apple fans and lovers of iPod. The iPod looks cool, GenerationMP3 says, but do you really want to be chained to iTunes and Apple products all your life? It’s time to “think REALLY different.” Over $2 billion worth of song have been downloaded from the iTunes Music Store since it began service and all of them protected by Apple’s FairPlay DRM, which limits storage and playback of those songs that you have bought to Apple products only. That means if you want to change player brands, you will lose all the songs that you have paid for, and in an average iPod user this could be worth thousands of dollars. The video presents other MP3/PMP players that can replace iPOd, and the first in line is the iRiver Clix, boasting an innovative click interface. Cowon D2, Creative Vision M, even the iPod clone Meizu miniOne…
Other iPod problems according to GenerationMP3 after the break:
- iPOd does not have an FM Tuner
- Does not support MP3 files
- Poor battery life
- Nano does not play video, though with Rockbox and linux it can support video playback)
- Batteris useless after 18 months.

That is rubbish! iPod does support MP3 perfectly, even MP3VBR, which a lot of other MP3 players mess up on. The Nano does not need to play video, the screen isn’t even big enough to look at photos nicely! With

While not completely satisfied with iPods, I have to say that they are definitely not “complete crap”. Sure there are other products that cost less and have better/more features, but the large market share is no miracle, a lot of people actually like the product and want it…

Nice video! I have a 5.5G iPod Video and I really enjoy it. All the songs I have on it are MP3 format and they work fine so I don’t know what you mean by iPod doesn’t support MP3. Since all my tunes are MP3s I am not stuck with Itunes. I can simply get another mp3 player and use those MP3s on it. I do see you point if you bought songs of the itunes store. I bought 1 song from the itunes store and I didn’t like the format of it so I tried to change it to a MP3 and I was no successful. I really like the design of the iPod and the scroll wheel is amazing. If I had to click a button to scroll through 2,000+ songs I would go insane, but with the iPod scroll wheel I can go from the top of the list to the bottom really really fast. I am not that familiar with the newer MP3 players on the market so I am not sure if other players out there have some kind of way to scroll through songs fast. I have recently purchased a 2G iPod shuffle for biking and running with. I bought one because I already have iTunes and all my songs are ready to be transfered to the shuffle and I also wanted to get the smallest MP3 player so I will not notice it when biking. I am into BMX biking so I am doing a lot of tricks and getting air off jumps. I definitely don’t want to jump my bike with my iPod video.
