In a move that will no doubt send iPod fans into a gloating frenzy, Apple has announced a partnership with EMI, owner of the Beatles’ record label, will begin selling unprotected and unrestricted music through the iTunes Store. This is the first time, Apple will sell music without its DRM protection. This means iTunes customer buying EMI music will be able to play them in an MP3 player other than iPod, which can be any iPod rival like Zune, iRiver, Sony, and many others.

While everyone was expected a major announcement from Apple and EMI regarding Beatles’ music possible being made available through iTunes, both companies have turned today’s announcement into something totally unexpected. News willmost likely travel cautiously, however, with the announcement coming too close to April Fools’ Day. The skeptic can read both EMI’s and Apple’s press release.
