Sony PSP to be Marketed to Teens

Everyone’s favorite PMP and still the most versatile player in the market, Sony’s PlayStation Portable, has just announced a price drop and that may have a direct correlation to recent downward trend in PSP users age. “Most of our registered owners database stats have shown the 13-17 year old consumers far outpacing other groups in terms of purchase,” PSP senior product manager John Koller told Game Life, “The intend-to-purchase crowd is living mostly in that group as well. We’re looking to expand beyond where we’ve been. PSP started as a device to appeal to 18-34 year-olds, but north of 26-27.” The new trend lead to Sony’s much-criticized “All I Want For Christmas Is A PSP” viral campaign, which featured a rapper trying to get his mom to buy him a PSP. Lowering the price to a more affordable $169, Koller hopes, will be a more honest bid for the 13-17 year-olds attention. To help the new price go down more smoothly, Sony will be unveiling a new campaign called “Dude, Get Your Own.” The new campaign will put more emphasis on PSPs “portability.”
