On another Apple note, Mac OS X 10.5 or Leopard is now scheduled to launch in October this year instead of Q2, Apple has announced Thursday April 12. It’s Apple’s and perhaps the world’s most advanced operating system, a working prototype of which was shown to developers at 2006 Worldwide Developers Conference held in April. The delay weakened Apple stocks (AAPL) by 3 per cent on the trading day. The reason given for the delay was iPhone.

In Apple’s own words: “the iPhone contains the most sophisticated software ever shipped on a mobile device, and finishing it on time has not come without a price—we had to borrow some key software engineering and QA resources from our Mac OS(R) X team, and as a result we will not be able to release Leopard at our Worldwide Developers Conference in early June as planned.”

A beta version of the Leopard, however, will be available in June. Analysts have predicted that the new operating system will boost sales of Apple’s Mac computers. Steve Baker, an analyst with NPD Group thinks that Apple is confident enough on Mac’s standing in the market to risk postponing Leopard’s release to ensure the success of the iPhone, which is seen as a potentially huge area of growth for Apple.
