Designs of second-gen iPhones have just reached the US Patent & Trademark Office. Titled Back-side Interface for Hand-Held Devices, it solves one worry users have of using touch-screen devices like the iPhone: smudges on that beautiful widescreen. The 2G iPhone will be about the size of the Nano and will be unlike the iPhone in that it doesn’t have a touch-screen. You control the interface using a force-sensitive clickwheel at the back. You operate the clickwheel while viewing a semi-transparent control on the screen. Press the clickwheel softly to scroll over the menu and press hard to select.
