The MMP8640 is exactly the kind of PMP design you’d expect from a mom-and-pop company. Memorex has been privately operated by the Hopper family since 1970. It began as a wholesaler and gradually evolved into a manufacturer. Perhaps it isn’t necessarily ambition to be big that drives Memorex. We glean that from the product itself, which is the kind of product you’ll see Hill Bill and Montanan sheep herders will pack along with their can of beans and a dead racoon. I mean, I just love its color scheme. The MMP8640 supports MPEG-4, MP3, WMA, WMA-DRM and JPEG. Video files are playable in QCIF+, so you’ll have to download a conversion software. The screen is 1.8-inch QCIF+ color screen with dual landscape (widescreen) and portrait orientation. Other specs of the Memorex MMP8640 includes an FM tuner (good for tuning in to KISS-FM in Austin), 3.5mm audio jack, USB and a miniSD card slot. It has 4GB of internal flash memory.
