30 06 2007

iphone-vs-minione-m8-comparison.JPG

Some facts about the Meizu M8 have been sent CNET’s way via Rick Martin’s blog. For starters here are the possible pricing for the M8:

  • 4GB model:about 2000 Chinese RMB (approx $263 US)
  • 8GB model:about 2500 Chinese RMB (approx $328 US)
  • 16GB model:about 3500 Chinese RMB (approx $460 US)

The conclusion: M8 is no cheap clone. The 3 megapixel camera, 3G, and 128 DDR SDRAM makes this phone a heavyweight.

Newman M6000 80GB is Out for $236

30 06 2007

newman-m6000-a1.JPG

It’s the price in China, which is the equivalent of 1799 yuan, but based on the specs of the Neman M6000, it looks like we’ve got another cheap PMP here. The M6000 has a 4.3-inch 480 × 272-pixel TFT LCD screen with 16 million colors. This is the Newman player, Charbax got excited about back at CeBit 2007. It’s a bulky player at 142 × 80 × 26mm. The onboard video decoder chip EM851 from Sigma Designs supports MPEG1 (DAT, MPG, MPEG), MPEG2 (DVD) MPEG4 (MP4, AVI) besides the DVD native format of the M6000. It’s also compatible with MP3, WMA and OGG. MP3 files get additional simultaneous lyrics. The built-in mic could record audio in very high quality. It comes with a USB port and plays five hours of video.

This player also goes by the name Imax T7000. You can read a review of it here.

Care for a Portable DVD PLayer: 7-inch Greenhouse GH-PDV730W

30 06 2007

greenhouse-gh-pdv730.jpg

While we’ve never heard of the manufacturer Greenhouse, we’re happy to report on a new product that has nothing to do with the iPhone. The GH-PDV730W has a 7-inch screen with 480 × 234-pixel resolution. It plays DVD±R/RW and video CD and CD-R/RW and works as a PMP as well with DivX, XviDMP3, WMA, MPEG-4, JPEG support. Form factor is not much - 205 × 164 × 38mm - and as you can see it’s a small laptop. Battery is only a 2.5 hours of video. It’s coming to Japan in July for around $135.

Prepaid and Contractless iPhone for Dead Beats Sold

30 06 2007

iphone-taken-apart-think-sercret.jpg

If you lined up for the $499 iPhone yesterday even though you are having trouble paying your bills, AT&T will let you have your iPhone anyway and you can even use it, thanks to their unannounced pay-per-month program. Potential customers have to meet AT&T’s credit test before they can sign up for an AT&T contract. “We want to give people an alternative if they don’t meet the criteria,” AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel said. People who bought their phones from AT&T went through a credit check. Those who bought the iPhone from Apple stores skipped the process.

It was earlier reported that iPhone owners can activate their AT&T account through iTunes (latest version 7.3). What was not mentioned was that AT&T had to provide a code for activation, which would be given after approval. Customers with bad credit were also given the option to pay for the service on a prepaid basis, which is more expensive than signing up for a post-paid plan.

29 06 2007

meizu-m8-minione.jpg

The site Negri Electronics is selling the Meizu M8, also known as the Chinese iPhone, in advance for $988.50. The site has the full specs (pretty comprehensive and accurate, I believe) of the M8 MiniOne. Negri Electronics is using the old M8 picture, not the newly released image we featured a couple of days ago, showing the phone-PMP’s landscape viewing function (above pic). Now as it happens we were in contact with the marketing department of Meizu just yesterday and this is what they told us:

3G iPhone for the UK To Be Announced Monday

29 06 2007

vodafone-iphone.jpg

Britain may be rejoicing for the Jesus Phone as early as next Monday July 1, according to Bill Condie of the London Evening Standard. T-Mobile, Vodafone are said to be involved. The British will get their 3G iPhone at the end of the year. We’ve reported before that T-Mobile is the hottest contender for the iPhone exclusive in Europe and Vodafone was one of its hottest rivals. It looks like a compromise has been made. Carphone Warehouse is Europe’s largest cell phone retailer and has also been reported to be interested in the iPhone.

But Gizmodo “know for a fact that negotiations are still underway with Telefonica/O2.”

Maxian 850 PMP Announced

29 06 2007

maxian-850.jpg

Maxian has announced the 850, the successor of the Maxian 800, which we have previously found at another site with a hands-on review of this PSP-sized device. The new 850 incorporates an electronic dictionary on the 800 portable media player and a 4.3-inch WVGA touch screen for the accommodation. Yes, it looks like it’s gone touch screen, and an added TTS (text to speech) interface makes this PMP look more like a PDA. Other features include TV recording, Burr Brown’s audio codec, 9 equalizers, play speed adjustment and multitasking. The 17mm-thick PMP and e-Dictionary is priced at $399 for the 30GB.

More pictures after the break.

New Zune Art “Los Corazones” is a Winner

28 06 2007

Zune Arts are based on the Zune concept of “The Social” or, technically speaking, the Zune’s ability to share content with other Zune players, which isn’t found in other MP3 players in the market including the iPod. Often criticized for their enigmatic quality and sometimes just outright unintelligible, the latest addition from Punga of Buenos Aires, Argentina, is a rather splendid expression of fellow feeling in found friendship among odd characters, or what not (sorry, I tried).

Thanks to GenerationMP3 for reminding us that Zune Art has been growing despite the market pitfuls of Microsoft’s players. Oh, Los Corazones means “The Hearts.”

More Zune Arts to follow:

Nurian X10 Dual-LCD e-Dictionary

28 06 2007

 nurian_x10-e-dictionary.JPG

What’s with all these electronic dictionaries that’s popping up from manufacturers? What ever happened tothe paperback dictionaries? As a multi-lingual dictionary, the X10 maybe a little heavy with its English, Japanese, Chinese and Korean language support. You search for words like you would search for a keyword on a Web search engine, which ironically is how I check for correct spelling for words nowadays, type it on Google and count the number of entries; more entries means correct spelling). The main screen of the X10 is a 4.1 inch 320 X 240 touchscreen. The second and outer screen is OLED and displays the time and date. It’s also got an FM tuner, voice recorder, image viewer, text reader and a scheduler. It’s compatible with XviD and with a codec can play most video as well as audio formats. You can listen to MP3 music for 11 hours on the 1600mAh battery and 5 hours for the video viewing. It comes in orange and in black. Price tag: 319,000 KRW or $ 345.
