The iPhone will definitely be in short supply immediately after it is launched some time this June. But the shortage will not be due to delayed parts, and it is not because there are too many advanced orders either. According to Tanner Godarzi of iPhone matters, the iPhone shortage will be due to AT&T. The wireless giant is going to deliberately be keeping the iPhone on a controlled outflow from its stores. Apparently, this is standard practice for wirless companies when selling high-end phones like the BlackBerry and now the iPhone.

Godarzi got the tip from an AT&T rep (if you want to know what it is to be Yoda, ask these AT&T reps). Arianna Huffington (who was named by Time as one of the 100 most influential people in the world) had her tip coming from Steve Job’s himself:

“Talking to Steve Jobs after his speech, I got a hot tip on how to be one of the first people to score a new iPhone when they go on sale in June. ‘Don’t go to an Apple store,’ Jobs told me. ‘It will be a madhouse there. People will be lined up around the block, sleeping on the sidewalk to get one. Go to an AT&T/Cingular store. Most people don’t know that they will be selling them too.’”
