I’ve been counting on this site for an unlocked version of the iPhone, which I can then use in any part of the world using GSM 850/900/1800/1900 bands. But it looks like Apple found out about their little enterprise and had the site shut down, and I mean the entire site, not just its iPhone page, which should’ve been located here.
If you buy the iPhone from the site, you’ll have to put up an extra $19 for economy shipping (takes 3-4 days) or $29 for priority (1-2 days). Presumably there’s no premium for the unlocked Apple phone, which costs $499 for 4GB of storage.
Another site offering the iPhone is still online however. Digigasin will have an iPhone ready for you, like PureMobile, from June 29 onwards for 835 Swiss CHF, which translates to about $671.00. Not a bad deal really if we assume that this one’s unlocked too. Heck, I’d buy one.

Here’s an HTML copy of the PureMobile Apple iPhone page. Will replace this with a snapshot when I can.

Other networks aren’t even capable of working with the iPhone. In the event you were actually able to get the phone working on another network, it would be useless, none of the features that make the iPhone worth having would even work.
As for them having an unlocked version of the phone by the 29th, no one outside of Apple Cupertino, CA even has the phone. There is no way they will have it ready to ship the same day. In addition they would be hard pressed to get more than 10 phone the first day. There is no way they are an authorized reseller.

There are no features that the iphone has that other phones do not have other than visual voicemail, which is purely implented on the phone with current technology. That means the iphone is capable of working with any network. Even if by a bit of chance you were right, I dont think Cingular will go through the trouble of changing its network just to fit the iphone.
Other features like internet (gprs), picture messaging, etc will use the current standard protocols. Its just that the iphone has a killer interface that makes you realize these features exist.

I heard from my hard core mac geek friend that developers are already on to strip the core of mac os on iPhone. Nothing is too difficult for this challenge-hungry community - if not by 29 June, there will be an Unlocked iPhone by July 1st

Now that the Iphone is out has anyone who bought one tried to see if it is unlocked. I am purely guessing but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Iphones sold at Apple stores were unlocked compared to the ones sold at the AT&T stores (seeing how it would be AT&T that locks them). Well I will be going to Apple tommrow to ask them if it matters which store you buy it at and if it doesn’t already come unlocked…

I live in the uk, where our phone networks are quite a bit more advanced than in the us (no offense). Pretty much every mobile phone network(carrier) is now 3g over here (3g = mobile broadband, around 3.5Mbits/Seccond). Meaning, over here, every network would easily be able to support all the iphones features. So this website is a goldmine to me. Any news keep me posted.
