Britain may be rejoicing for the Jesus Phone as early as next Monday July 1, according to Bill Condie of the London Evening Standard. T-Mobile, Vodafone are said to be involved. The British will get their 3G iPhone at the end of the year. We’ve reported before that T-Mobile is the hottest contender for the iPhone exclusive in Europe and Vodafone was one of its hottest rivals. It looks like a compromise has been made. Carphone Warehouse is Europe’s largest cell phone retailer and has also been reported to be interested in the iPhone.
But Gizmodo “know for a fact that negotiations are still underway with Telefonica/O2.”

I tend to think that the possibility of the iPhone turning on 3G support is VERY likely. It makes sense, it will be attractive to more markets instead of only being able to work (bow down to) those regions with limited number of EDGE carriers.
Here in Australia there is only one carrier that has majority EDGE coverage and they are in bed with Microsoft, therefore they are not in favour of the Apple iPhone,. That leaves working with one of the other carriers here and 3G. Will have to wait till later in the year and see how the bidness pans out.
So my vote/guess on 3G is a big YES.

[...] well, considering the iPhone is a 2G device (or 2.5G), and a 3G version is yet to be released, it goes without saying that it won’t be on 3…. I think it will be, have a read. http://www.pmptoday.com/2007/06/29/3g-iphone-for-the-uk-to-be-announced-monday/ [...]
