It’s not quite the Transformers Movie, which made $30 million dollars around the world (U.S. showing begins July 4), but 500,000 handset units sold in one weekend is beyond phenomenal. About 95% of buyers from three cities - San Francisco, New York and Minneapolis - bought the 8GB model (expecting a lot of usage in the device, no doubt), while market analyst outfit PiperJaffray half the people who bought the iPhone are not customers of AT&T.
