Sorry to disappoint you hardcore Beatles fans, but the crazy limited edition Yellow Submarine iPod is pretty much just a big hoax. Gadget Lab debunked the rumor by tracing its origins to legendary blogger and podcaster Merlin Mann. Mann basically came up of the most ridiculous concept for an iPod–a bright yellow iPod loaded with every single Beatles album in existence–and mentioned it on the MacBreak Weekly podcast as a joke. It didn’t take too long for the meme to catch on, what with the internet going ablaze with arguments between people praising the idea and people rolling their eyes at the people who praised the idea because they already own all thee Beatles’ albums. In vinyl. Personally I would have probably been suckered into buying one (if it did exist) because I’d like to own the entire Beatles catalogue in convenient form and because I think it makes for a cute novelty item. But that’s just me.
