The Chinese media has been abuzz by iPhone rumors. With the iPhone and iPod being manufactured just across the Strait, you can’t blame them for smelling the scent of the second generation iPhone in the air.
According to Commercil Times, Wintek has received orders for touch screen panels for the new version of iPhone: The report claims that the new iPhone from Apple will begin shipping in September with prices ranging from US$249-299. The paper added that Apple recently visited Wintek to deliver instructions on manufacturing and the company has begun test production in small volumes.
This contradicts earlier rumors that the iPhone will be cheaper and will have a clickwheel (not a touchscreen) as well as analysts predictions. JP Morgan thinks that a cheaper iPhone Nano in the near term would pose too much risk for the iPhone market. It admits a cheaper iPhone is inevitable, however a 3G iPhone is more likely late this year.
Besides iPhone, Wintek will also supply capacitive touch panels for the new iPod video. The report states it won’t be like the iPhone but rather a “simpler version.”
