In a bit of good news for people who want an iPhone but refuse to be tethered to AT&T for the two-year lockdown required, the nice people at the iPhone Dev Wiki have successfully been able to unlock the device using an app called iASign. Partially, that is. Now you can use any existing Cingular or AT&T prepaid or MVNA SIMcard with your shiny new gadget. That means you can dump whatever you’ve been using previously, and get with the new hotness (if you’re an AT&T subscriber).
The good news doesn’t stop there. These guys are continuing their efforts to fully unlock the iPhone, so let’s wait and see how that goes. We’ll keep you updated, so please check back with us for more news.
