iPhone’s Got a Virus!

Sat, Jul 21, 2007

Apple, Phone

Gizmodo is reporting a possible iPhone virus. A user called it in and Apple support told him in four very scary words that it must’ve been a virus. The user never took a picture. The solution from Apple support seems to have worked and nothing else was seen or heard.

A Gizmodo reader is claiming that his iPhone got what Apple support said “sounds like a virus.” Last night he heard a received SMS ring but there was none. Instead, the iPhone’s date was replaced by the text “Player Haters (red alert).” Since the first external app was compiled this week, it’s hard to believe. There are other explanations. [Gizmodo]

We want to help Gizmodo find more evidence of this virus, so if you happen to have an iPhone seen something something weird on the screen, post it in the comments section.

I had the same problem 3 nights ago and ever since I opened the SMS, my SMS folder opens and then closes again. There seems to be no way to open the SMS Folder or to retrieve stored messages. Does anyone know how to solve this issue?
    Many thanks guys !

I experienced the same problem after I’ve received a message with some funny characters. What I did was reset my iphone and erase all the contents and settings and then synchronize it again. You must set it “as a new phone” otherwise, all the old settings will be stored in your phone again including the sms. Then you could upload again your music playlist, videos, photos, etc.

    Hope this helps.

Just go Setting-General-Reset-All content and settings -

I had installer.app on 1.1.2 and everything was fine but some stupid thing happened to my phone from a source. It kept asking me for my voicemail password and then restarting and then everything would go blurry then it turned off snd the apple signal popped up then a bunch of horizontal black an white stripes popped up and going on and off. Couldnt turn it off or touch the screen. notta. pissed me off. couldnt even connect my phone to itunes. kept reading an unknown error. Had to finally somehow restore it erasing everything. Now I cant even get all the apps back or my numbers or crap. Ne help would be appreciated. Thanks— michaeljamesdunn@hotmail.com

After I installed the volume booster (1.1.4) on my iphone and restarted it, a weird thing appeared on the startup screen. It looked like a hole with some grey stuff leaking out of it, and the Apple-icon started blinking. But i havent noticed anything weird since that, so I guess it was just a bug or something..

A couple days ago, my iPhone froze. I could not shut it off or even slide the button to open the main page from my screensaver. Eventually that night it restarted and all was fine. That next night, it messed up again. I was listening to the iPod and it froze up. I could still scan through songs, but when I pressed the home button, nothing happened. WTF is going on with our iPhones?
