News on the 2nd Generation Zune
22 07 2007
Microsoft has released some news on the probable directions that the second generation Zune 2.0 will be taking. There’s nothing definite yet, but one thing’s for sure–since Zune follows the cycle of consumer electronics, it’s likely that they’ll release a new model (either the 80GB model Scorpio or the Draco, the flash-based Zune) before the holiday season begins.
That being said, there are three possible ways Microsoft will expand the Zune. First, they may add new sizes, styles, and prize points. They might also add more features to bring the Zune up to par with the iPod in terms of support for video, podcasting, as well as build on other features like the wireless feature and the FM tuner. Microsoft also intends to expand the geographic market of the Zune over time, but only when they’re certain that they can cater to the specific market’s needs. One thing Microsoft does guarantee is that the Zune is future-proofed. This means that consumers need not worry about the Zune going obsolete since the device itself becomes automatically updated when new softwares are released. Looks like we’ve got some interesting things to look forward to from Microsoft later in the year.
