Nanosys Doubles Flash Capacity
23 07 2007Flash memory is one step closer to being the storage of choice for handset, MP3 players, PMPs and other portable devices in the near future. Nanosys can double the capacity of current flash storage by adding nano crystals to the usual production process of flash memory. These nanocrytals would self-assemble like skyscraper. This gives flash capacity a vertical dimension. “Doubling” could very well turn out to be a modest word. The nanocrystal technology itself is nothing new to flash memory, but the team from Nanosys has added molecules called “ligands” that control nanocrystal growth and make them uniform.
