Here’s an interesting take on convergence from GenerationMP3. The handset and PMP both have Internet access through WiFi and both play videos and MP3 rather well, though the 605 may have a slight advantage on that department with its 4.3-inch screen. There’s no comparison on storage, the Archos has a hard disk. What surprises is the screen resolution. The Archos has a nice 800 x 480-pixel screen rendering 16 million colors, which is as good as it gets, and yet the iPhone’s 320 x4 80-pixel at 160 ppi is significantly better. Steve Jobs’ choice to upgrade the plastic screen to advanced scratch-resistant glass has paid off in a big way. We b browsing is another surprise. Scrolling up and down a Web page on an iPhone is smooth as silk, but the Javascript support on the Archos’ Opera browser does make a difference.
