AT&T’s reported conversion on the iPhone has pretty much debunked the 500k hyped-up sales on iPhone’s first weekend. AT&T’s 146k figure, however, leaves a lot of people scratching their heads. Surely a lot more iPhones were sold before the end of June or on its first 30 hours since it was launched at 6PM June 29. Both Apple and AT&T stocks went down after AT&T announced their iPhone numbers Tuesday.
Now it’s Apple’s turn to announce its own figures and the overall mood is “rally.” Their official estimate puts iPhone at 270k units in 30 hours, that’s not counting online sales, which must’ve been enormous as well. But 270k ain’t bad at all. It’s still in “hype” territory. To be honest, 146k units in 30 hours is in “hype territory.” AAPL was up $12.26 or nine per cent to $149.52 per share. Helping the move was iPod which grew another million in sales compared to last year and Macs, which grew 33 per cent.
