The iPhone just might become a gaming platform once other developers jump into the merry bandwagon. Last Monday, casual-game developer PopCap launched their game Bejeweled for the iPhone for absolutely no cost. iPhone users can log on to popcap.com through Safari and play the iPhone version of Bejeweled, which is designed to take full advantage of the phone’s display and input controls. There’s no news yet on whether PopCap’s going to be releasing more games; I suppose they’ll see how well Bejeweled does before they put more games in the works.
As of now, there’s still no way to monetize the games since iPhone users can’t buy and download games to play while they’re offline. Apple hasn’t revealed what it has in mind in the gaming arena but maybe they’ll come up with a similar system like iTunes.
