Philippine Company Working on iPhone Music Application for Remote iTunes Access
3 08 2007
A homegrown software company from the Philippines who launched an online backup and recovery system for iTunes last month is currently working on a new web service that allows iPhone users to access their iTunes library. The software firm Xackup is one of the few firms in the Philippines that focuses on developing Mac applications. Terence Pua, co-founder and CEO of Xackup says that his team of Filipino developers is working on a system called Headphones. This remote access application will allow iPhone users to listen to iTunes once subscribers download a software client onto their laptop or PC.
Since the Safari browser is limited, the developer created a web interface for Headphones using the user interface of the iPod. In the demo, Pua used an iPhone emulator on a Mac desktop. Using the application, users can create music playlists and organise them according to genre, album, song, or artist. According to Pua, any phone with broadband access can use this service, but it’s built especially for the iPhone. No word as to when the Mac application will be launched, but it’s likely that it will coincide with the Apple’s iPhone launch in Asia. When egged for more details, Pua is a little hesitant saying only that “It is a remote access application or sort of a mobile antenna for iTunes.”
