Chinavision’s yet unnamed MP4 player with serial number CVAAL-A28 is an expression of barebones simplicity amid an industry dominated by the ultra-sophisticated and the complex. Perhaps the only regretful feature is the small 1.8-inch OLED screen with a very limited 65k colors. It plays MPEG, WMV and ASF through a conversion software at 15fps and an unimpressive 128 x 128-pixel resolution. It plays MP3 and WMA audio files and records in WAV. It’s also equipped with a FM tuner like all PMPs should. Nothing much in terms of functionality as you can see, except that at a slim 88 x 39 x 8mm and with buttons bigger than ATM machine buttons, we’re reminded that when it comes to PMPs, it’s still the videos and the music that matter more, not the fanciness of the gadget. And oh, this one goes for $36 to $63 wholesale.
