The second round of the LG Prada-iPhone rivalry will begin in October when the LG U990 is announced by 3 for British consumers. The LG U990 is a touchscreen phone like the first LG Prada. The tie-in with the Italian fashion label has been discontinued but like LG Prada, the U990 front is mostly touchscreen with minimal concession to tactile buttons. Though no one expects the new UI to a breakthrough like iPhone’s UI, the LG U990 is groundbreaking in other respects.
Onboard is a 5 megapixel camera with manual autofocus. This camera doubles as a high-end video recorder with 120fps video capture. Regular cinematic frame speed is only 30fps, which means the U990’s camera is capable of slow motion capture. You will have endless amounts of fun time taking videos and playing them back in slow-mo on this phone. The mark of a true convergence device that it enables users to carry only one device for all his needs. The LG U990 at the very least makes standalone digital cameras obsolete. Besides the amazing 5 MP camera, the U990 also benefits from HSDPA connectivity.
The LG U990 will be distributed in the U.K. by 3 ahead of iPhone’s launch date there. TheU990’s quest for iPhone defeat will be helped by it’s improved touchscreen with tactile feedback. In any case, Nokia’s N95 will be its closest rival feature for feature, and it will have the touchscreen advantage.

It will be interesting to see the effects (or at least the analysts opinions of the effects) at introducing the Prada at the same time as the iPhone introduction.
Will the price be the same as the previous Prada…$800.00? And why no mention of it being “so expensive”, when it is mentioned in almost every iPhone review and the Prada is significantly more expensive than the iPhone? Since it is more expensive than the iPhone, will it be subjected to the same relentness critiques of every single feature?
Will it be like the previous Prada, and “not for sale” in the US, but only in Europe?
If so, then comparisons with the iPhone would seem to only make sense for europeans, as in the US the Prada would not be a reality, but only pure hype and a vaporware-phone.

I don’t know about the US but in the UK it’s not expensive at all.
3 are offering it at the minimum tarriff for £24 a month ($48) and no extra. O2 on the other hand are offering the iphone for £35 ($70) a month £200 ($400) up front to get it.
I saw one at O2 store today, they’d had it in stock 20m minutes! slick, lovely screen, thin, good user interface, the small vibration when you touch it is good feedback, the camera is stunning.
3 didn’t have it in stock which was the only thing stopping me from signing up there and then!
