Nokia Announces Ovi Internet Services

30 08 2007

Nokia will not be known as simply a handset manufacturer after it has introduced Ovi, the Nokia branded doorway to online content including music, games and maps downloads. Ovi, incidentally, means “door” in Finnish. Ovi is way bigger than iTunes rival we have been expecting from Nokia. Looking back, we wonder how we can seriously think that the biggest cell phone manufacturer in the world is only planning to play catch up to iTunes. Under Ovi is the N-Gage business, the Nokia Music Store and Nokia Maps. Presumably, more businesses would be added to Ovi.

So, is Nokia’s Ovi going to get a warm reception from wireless providers around the world, many of which have their own content services? One things is almost certain, Nokia users will eat it up.
