Of all the iPhone unlockers racing to be the first, iPhoneSIMFree took the honors. We knew for days but a CNN confirmation is pretty official. The Apple phone can be unlocked from AT&T exclusivity with hardware solutions, but some results of the process has been undesirable. iPhoneSIMFree is the first confirmed software solution, which will be for sale to interested customers. There was no response yet from Apple about this new development.

Competition come from UniquePhones of Northern Ireland. They have already priced theirs at $25 per iPhone unlocking. They have the honor of being sent official greetings from AT&T’s lawyers.

Is it me or does this matter? Can you activate the phone after you’ve unlocked it, or do you need to activate the phone and then unlock it. If it’s the latter then AT&T could probably care less, as they get the rental anyway.
