iPhone Price Drop: Steve Jobs Apologizes and Offers $100 Back
6 09 2007I have received hundreds of emails from iPhone customers who are upset about Apple dropping the price of iPhone by $200 two months after it went on sale. After reading every one of these emails, I have some observations and conclusions, Steve Jobs begins his open letter to Apple fans and iPhone owners.
Steve just dropped the price of the 8GB iPhone yesterday from $599 to $399. That’s a quarter of thecellphone’s value in a little over two months. Then he goes on to explain that his decision to cut the price this early was the correct one. He also admits he wants more people getting an iPhone especially for the holidays (maybe Hon Hai workers have been begging Apple to allow them to work overtime). Steve Jobs is trying to explain Apple’s situation to Apple fans. Will Apple fans support Apple if Apple want to take over the mobile industry? Hm. (Continued…)

Steve devotes an entire paragraph to cliches: change is necessary ($200 price drop in two months?); still makes sense to buy now coz you never know what to expect (sheez!); but Apple is different and Apple will treat you fair (huh?).
Then he winds down and offers a $100 store credit towards the purchase of any product at an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store. Still working on the fine print, however.
Steve Jobs wraps up by apologizing to old customers: We want to do the right thing for our valued iPhone customers. We apologize for disappointing some of you, and we are doing our best to live up to your high expectations of Apple. The guy is so honorable it makes me cry.

The competitors are going to launch their similar-to-iPhone device. That is why Apple needs to speed up their sales to grab the market share. Meizu is coming. Too bad, a very short honeymoon with iPhone.
