Free iPhone Unlock Software Goes Global

Even though the iPhone has yet to be released in Asia and Europe, it looks like it’s safe for you to get your hands on one now. The free iPhone Unlock Software from the iPhone Dev Team has been tested to work in 42 different countries and 90 local carriers. The list compiled above includes the countries and their respective carriers, and it keeps growing by the minute. (Note: the dev team double-counted India on the list, and Telus does not work.)

Tests are based on incoming and outgoing SMS and calls, EDGE/GPRS access, and voicemail access. Visual voicemail does not work, though you can receive alerts and check your voicemail messages. So if you really can’t wait for the iPhone to hit your continent, it might be worth it to import the US model. The iPhone unlock seems to work consistently in all four corners of the globe.
