What with the fast pace of technology today, it doesn’t take long for gadgets to become obsolete. But what if there was a way to extend their functionality instead of selling them to the junk shop? This is the idea behind Thomas Miller’s IEye concept. He entered this idea into the “Create the Future Contest” and it proposes that the life of PMPs can be extended by attaching a device that includes a video still camera and microphone to give new purpose to the existing gadget.
The IEye is attached to the dock connector of the PMP, which then acts as a storage device and monitor to view the content as it is being recorded. You can store the content and burn it into a DVD later on. The IEye also transforms the PMP into a portable video conference device through WiFi or 3G.
Thomas believes that this idea will not only increase the life of current PMP models, but will also help boost the sales of new players by offering extended functionality at a lower cost. If he can turn this idea into a reality, it’d be great news for those who have sentimental attachments to their older PMPs.
