Everyone’s talking about the iPhone 1.1.1 update but before you get a little update-happy, here are a couple of things you probably need to know:
1) You use the iPhone to buy songs at the iTunes WiFi music store and transfer it to your computer. iTunes even makes a custom playlist with your purchases.
2) You can do cool tricks with the Home button and the double-space. It may not be worth cutting off access to third-party applications though.
3) You cannot downgrade back to 1.0.2! Not even the alt-restore trick (the one that lets you pick out an ispw file to restore rfom) is gonna work this time.
4) The new firmware is locked down tight. There’s no way you can upgrade while keeping your iPhone applications intact. Well at least there haven’t been any reports of that happening yet.
5) The my media folder disk access utilities still work. If youwant to store files on your iPhone or iTouch, download this (for Intel Macs only). Should you want to run a PPC, get this universal, rename it to util and replace the one in my tar file. While it won’t run as clearly, you can still use it in a PPC Mac.

I dont have an iPhone (nor do I want one)… but in that picture, it looks to me like it is running on WinXP… What’s up with that? I though iPhones ran a Mac OS.

Yeah, wtf? Running WinXP?
Not surprised downgrade isn’t available. But way for Apple to lock in their profits once and for all (or is it?).

uh, I have an Phone which I upgraded to 1.1.1. big mistake.
so I downgraded back to 1.0.2. Best idea.
So, uh.. you’re saying I can’t downgrade back? hmm..wonder how I did it.
Maybe it’s the geniuses at tuaw.com & modmyiphone.com. They’re the best.
Oh, I just stumbled upon your page in google and got curious.
Lesson: leave your iPhone alone once you successfully unlock it!
