Symbian is pushing the envelope in smartphone technology, announcing today support for ARM SMP (symmetric multi-processor). ARM SMP is the mobile version of multi-core technology in PCs and will enable handsets to run more demanding applications. The SMP technology will also allow power savings by accessing the cores only when needed. Symbian and ARM have been technology partners for a decade. ARM® Cortex™-A9 MPCore™ was announced earlier today and will be found in Symbian smartphone by 2010 or thereabouts.
