How does a cellphone manufacturer like Motorola survive in world where iPhone is king? Why give ‘em what Phone doesn’t have or is famously lacking - high megapixel count. The site Gsmhelpdesk leaked photos on upcoming Motorola phones scheduled for 2008. One of them is the Motorola Skarven, which is an 8 megapixel cameraphone that uses the kick-slide action like in the RIZR Z8 to reveal the keypad. It’s possibly a touch-screen phone as well. By the way, the 8MP camera has optical zoom, so this will be the most advanced camera on a phone when it comes out. The X Pixel is a candybar with a 5 megapixel lens from Kodak. It may be called the Z12 instead when it comes out. The other two will not focus on the camera feature; instead the TEXEL will be a music-focus phone with a special multi-layered keyboard and will also introduce the “morph technology.” The last model is a smartphone codenamed Genghis that will run on Windows Mobile 6. Not much is known of it yet besides the fact that it’s a QWERTY phone. Motorola’s new strategy seems to be to muscle its way back into contention. It’s currently in third place behind Nokia and Samsung and may fall furter behind Sony Ericsson and is in real danger of being swallowed by iPhone’s success.
