Microsoft never denied that the original Zune player design was done by Toshiba but did Microsoft take the new Zune design from Toshiba’s Gigabeat PMP series too? According to Akihabaranews they did and they have the pics to prove it. During CEATEC 2007, Toshiba previewed a PMP player with 3.2-inch screen that looks exactly like the Zune 80. Now one could argue the Zune Pad remains an original innovation from Microsoft, but the form factor of the unnamed Gigabeat and Zune 80 are strikingly similar. The two Flash Zune versions, the Zune 4 and the Zune 8 sport the remarkable touch pad but observe what happens when you take away the Microsoft proprietary Zune Pad and replace it with the Gigabeat’s distinctive cross-buttons.
