In its first half year on sale, the Apple iPhone has already taken fourth place in the US cellphone market. The expectation is that it will become number 1 within the next two quarters, a real achievement for Apple. The iPhone has racked up 1.1 million in total sales, which makes up for 13% of AT&T’s handset sales. At the moment Moto’s RAZR V3 remains on top but its foothold is slipping. The analysis of David Kerr, Vice President of the Strategy Analytics Global Wireless Practice should put the entire industry on the alert if it isn’t already: “The typical iPhone buyer is upwardly mobile, college educated with a six-figure household income. While the largest percentage of iPhone buyers is between 20-30 years old, the fact that nearly 25 percent were between 50-60 years old demonstrates that the device attracts buyers across a broad age spectrum.”
