The Philippine Cable TV Association (PCTA) demanded that Smart Telecommunications cease their myTV services. MyTV is Smart’s new mobile TV service in partnership with 360 media and MediaQuest that was launched last March as an additional service to their 27 million subscribers.

PCTA president Alan Dungao says that myTV is “illegal” because under the existing rules, only cable TV companies can provide for pay TV. According to him, myTV is similar to pay TV, which means that Smart committed a violation. Dungao addes that if Smart and its partners offer myTV services, they need to create laws and standards where their financial, legal, and technical capabilities can be properly determined.

The PCTA expects the cease and desist order to be released by the second week of November.
