Besides the P10, which may be coming out this year, iRiver is working on a Linux-based PMP with a tethered docking station and a detachable mobile unit. Called the Unit2, its base station has a 30Gb hard drive, DVD/C player, PC-style I/O, an ethernet port, and a TV tuner. The detachable display has a 7-inch WVGA (800×480) touchscreen, USB, and WiFi.
What makes this gadget interesting is that the docking station can be used to record DVDs, music CDs, or TV shows onto the portable unit, which gets charged when plugged into the dock. Other reported features of the Unit2 includes VOIP, media playback capabilities, GPS, .1-channel speakers, a 78-key controller/remote, support for music, photos, eBooks, and WiFi streaming. No news yet about the pricing or availability of this feature-packed media device.
