Rumor has it that the Zune could get integrated into the Xbox very soon. J. Allard from Microsoft envisions a device that allows people to rent and buy music, games, movies, or videos and play them on their mobile phone, portable media player, or their home entertainment center. He hopes to have more options than the Xbox Live service or the Zune Pass, which allows users access to unlimited downloads so long as they continue to pay $15/month. However, Allard’s vision got interrupted by the digital rights management issues Microsoft faced in the past, since confusion over the rights ruined the download experience for many users. But there’s still a chance that the dream of a unified platform for the Xbox 360, the Zune, and mobile phones may become a reality.
