CNET wanted to know which multi-featured PMP is best. From a number of possibilities they come up with a short list of two, namely Archos 605 and the Apple iPod Touch. Both players have multiple features, audio/video playback among others, and have WiFi connectivity enabled, but which one is better. These are the top two of the convergeance bunch with the best screens, user interface, video/audio playback, YouTube support, etc. The judges were CNET senior associate editors Jasmine French and Nicole Lee and CNET senior editor Donald Bell. The three judged the two players in five categories: Navigation, Sexiness, Compatibility (file support), Sound and Science (hardware and media playback quality), and Wallet Factor…. And the winner is Archos 605 Wifi, scoring 60 against the 54 of iPod Touch.

Ipod touch kills the 605, what normal person needs to carry 160gbs of music around at one time. Ipod touch has so many killer apps once it is jailbroken

PMP - personal media player.
The Archos 160gb Wifi is so much better than a touch in my opinion. A PMP i’snt just for music its for documents, videos, games etc.. If you are just looking for music then i suppose an ipod touch is ok, i did my research and the fact that it accepts so few file types and has such small memory for the money it really wouldn’t be the choice for me.
160gb of space for the archos 605 wifi goes a long way and that’s why i think its so good, you can fit so many films and tv episodes onto it you will never be stuck for choice its simply superb. I would also like to add, that the pictures of the archos 605 on the web dont do this PMP justice. Go and have a look at one it’s so much better, superb feel and quality.
If you want a PMP / MP4 for Christmas go for the archos 605 wifi its small enough for your pocket and big enough for your entire media collection. 10/10.

the 605 kicks the touch in to the dust in terms of more gadgets for your buck but unfortunely if you want the full wi-fi deal then you are going to have to buy a extra plug-in to download stuff off of the opera powered engine, but when you think about it you are saving money be not buying the touch so you can feel good about being made to pay extra!

As far as more gadgets go, I’d have to side with the iPod touch, but it has to be ‘jailbroken’ I don’t know if the 605 can have an NES emulator with working roms but I think it’s pretty cool. As I listen to my music I can play some PunchOut! Lets not forget the HUNDREDS of FREE third party applications that can be installed on the iPod touch. E-books, solitaire, change icon layout, change themes, some of the iPhone apps such as Maps, Notes, Stocks, and Weather. Overall the potential of the iPod touch is surmounted by the 605. Plus the battery life is much superior to the 605

Okay, I think that the iPod touch is a neat little gadget, with fun apps and upgrades. Same way with the Archos…but ya know, they both have negatives. Like with the Archos, its software might seem outdated to some people. And with the touch, like most of the iPods, it can scratch up easily, and dosen’t take a lot of media types. I’m not gonna say which one a consumer should buy because everyone is different. But if I were you, I would look at, and read as many reviews as possible. Good Luck with your decisions!!! -God Bless,
