Newman-Hyun has upped the ante in convergence devices with their new release. The L1200 PMP will definitely win the megapixel count with it 12 megapixel built-in digital camera with 8X digital zoom. The camera is located at one end of the PMP and should be rotatable up to 180 degrees. As a PMP it supports AVI videos with up to 24fps playback and MP3 audio files with JPEG and TXT support. Too bad we don’t kow much more except that the 3-inch QVGA screen supports 260k colors and it has a built-in USB 2.0 and SD/MMC card slot for more storage. Price tag is a dirt cheap 999 ($132). The L1200 is probably equipped with TV Out, though I am not sure from my Chinese translation, but there is definitely no mention of an FM tuner. Too bad that having a 12 MP camera built-in should deprive us of a built-in FM tuner.

[...] The line between digital camera and portable media player gets pretty blurry with this new Newman-Hyun L1200 device. It looks like a digital camera for good reason — it is. A 12-megapixel digital camera, to be exact. But it’s also a media player, with an SD/MMC slot that’ll let you load it up with music and video. Of course, a high number of megapixels doesn’t tell us whether or not that lens is worth a damn, but it’s a pretty cool convergence nonetheless, and for $132 the price is certainly right. [...] Filed under: Digital Cameras, Portable Audio, Portable Video Apart from format support and blatant KIRFage, there’s usually not much to distinguish one Chinese “MP4″ player from another, so Newman’s L1200 PMP is quite the standout with its 12 megapixel camera. Mounted cell-style on the edge of the device alongside a flash, the cam swivels 180 degrees to take regular shots or 30fps video of your smiling face. Other features include a 3-inch QVGA touchscreen, SD expansion, non-specific AVI video support, and a variety of shooting modes and setting for that cam. Not much else is known, but at just $132, it’s worth a splurge if you ever see it outside of China. [Via PMP Today] [...]
