Cool PMPs From China

16 12 2007

We’ve been bringing you the fugly side of Chinese electronics and, frankly, we’ve had enough so here.

1) Newman (Newsmy) N99. Not a bad-looking PMP if I might say so. For 329 yuan ($45) you get a solid-looking UI and file support in slim packaging (72 × 44 × 12mm) .

  • screen: 2.0-inch (220 x 176 pixels) TFT LCD with 260k-color support
  • video: AVI
  • audio: MP3, WMA, FLAC, APE
  • photo: JPEG
  • storage: 1GB
  • retail: $45

2) MOMO X5 and X6 PMPs. Also from Newman, both models from MOMO benefit from Microsoft’s PlayFX audio software. They use dual-core chips and play RM, RMVB, AVI videos. Features Bluetooth; audio playback supporting MP3, APE, FLAC, WMA, WAV files. Still unpriced.

If you like the design and form factor of Meizu’s M6 miniPlayer, the MOMO X5 and X6 is a good alternative.

More Chinese PMPs after the break.

3) Chi S50. Great video support in a sleek metallic design. The 1GB player retails for 299 yuan ($41).

  • screen: 2.4 inches
  • video: RM / RMVB, WMV, MP4, FLV
  • audio: MP3, WMV, Lossless APE/FLAC
  • FM radio

4) Venus JXD 931. Venus might have cloned the LG Shine in a previous product but that doesn’t mean they are incapable of a little originality. The JXD931 still “shines” but the improved screen size (3.6 inches) and the addition of a 2.0 megapixel camera with video capture and a Sunplus chip that supports video playback at 30fps and maximum 720 × 480-pixel resolution makes the price drop from 699 yuan ($95) to 499 yuan ($68) quite unnecessary.

  • audio: MP3 (?), WMA (?), WAV (?)
  • additional file support: JPEG, BMP, GIG, GIF animation, TXT
  • 2 MP camera
  • storage: 2GB
  • microSD expansion
