Apple-centric web site 9to5mac is sticking its neck out claiming that Apple will have sold its 5 millionth iPhone by the time MacWorld starts on January 14. The Apple iPhone is a big hit in Christmas even with abn imminent 3G iPhone.

Its recent European launch increased the iPhone’s market, while with the sudden dip to the iPhone’s price to $399 for the 8GB version, Apple has sold another one million units of the phone. With new iPhones, a 16GB version in January (?), iPhone 2.0 in the middle of 2008 (?), Steve Jobs target of 10 million units in users hands in 2008 is almost academic.

What has happened to Apple. Selling old technology in super nice slick design.
It is strange that a cell phone with nothing more then a web browser, an ipod in one can sell so many units.
And to call it a “smart phone” is misleading. The phone is nothing compare to high standard cell phones.
Apple has a lot to learn, and I’m sorry for all the people buying here before christmas, when Apple is launching a new and hopeful better in mid 2008.

How is it that Apple get away with this ? is it loyal to us, there users ?

I think that Apple gets away with it through great marketing and making super simple and attractive products. They also have a loyal base of fans who love them for doing it. No one else has as great a reputation for attractively marketing stylish, easy to use products.

Having been a recent convert to Apple (2004), it does not amaze me when people question the value of an Apple product; I was once one of them. An Apple product just works the way it is supposed to work. I do not propose that I have used all of their products, but the ones that I have (ipod, mac desktop) have satisfied my needs and exceeded my expectations; therefore, I am receptive to Apples other products and look forward to upgrading to Apple with my next purchase of a mobile phone (waiting for expiration of current contract and the 2nd generation iPhone) and laptop (Sony Vaio approaching 7 years). The fact that the components are part of an equally competent and increasingly integrated system is only additive.

Having bought two models of the Treo at over $600 a clip, I have nothing to complain about on my iPhone. It works…very well. Apple’s fusion of technology with cutting edge design will no doubt profit Apple as well as consumers. Consider the bar raised…permanently. The result is going to better products from all the major players.

I agree with NomadicSunder’s comment regarding the fact that Apple products have met or exceeded his expectations. I can say the same thing too!!
The fact of the matter is that Apple is an inovative, first to market company with a knack to understanding what the consumer wants.

    I agree with Jesper…

Meizu’s clone is hot… but is missing one key function the DigitalRise D99i and D69i have… the Shake Control function. Iphone does not even compete with these chinese iPhone clones… I’m sorry…. youtube vid is on this page…

only thing is the D69i is a dual band phone…

That being said, i think the next 5million units will be difficult… may even have to slash prices again…

Look at the figures that *have* been announced, and see if it seems likely:

    USA:
quarter of a million in 2 days. (half of those activated)
    1 million in 3 months.

    UK:
30k in 2 weeks… no more news (too embarrassed?).

    Germany:
2% of TMobile handset sales (a tiny fraction of all German phone sales).

Apple really have to get that 3g handset with more smarts out there, and offer some kind of upgrade deal to disgruntled users 6mo into their 18mo contract. At the moment, the iPhone only counts as a smart phone if it’s jail-broken, you rely on third parties, and risk bricking by Apple for your temerity. In February the iPhone genuinely becomes a smartphone, and it’s speculated that in May the 3g iPhone will arrive and bring with it broadband speeds when you’re away from a wireless network you have access to… finally making it a truly wireless internet device.

They might rush the 3g handset out by February though, because Android poses a serious threat with the right hardware and once you’re in a contract, it’s a good while before you can switch phones.
