Rumors, Zune

zune3.jpg

The folks over at the Zune design team are hard at work on the Zune 3 (or the Zune phone) and from the looks of the concept shot, it seems like they’ll be hopping on the merry iPhone-lookalike bandwagon. The Zune 3 is going to be a phone with the Zune 80’s features plus other features like Internet Explorer and WiFi Marketplace. Its mostly a touch-screen gadget with high-quality, scratch-resistant, touch sensitive glass that covers most of the front. The rest of its exterior are similar to the Zune 80, including the switch to de-activate. The lower panel buttons are touch-sensitive play/pause, call, Zune, and hang-up buttons that glow. The Zune 3 will be available in 16GB and 32GB flash memory and won’t be restricted to any network.

I have to admit that I like how sleek and shiny the Zune 3 concept looks like but geez. Couldn’t they come up with a more original design? Why try to be like the iPhone instead of creating something completely groundbreaking?

I’m sorry, can’t see any resemblence to the iphone except for the word “podcasts,” the rectangular shape and the zune button in the bottom middle…

ha! you call the zune un- original?! most of the “cool” factors of the ipod have been stolen - that scroll design? taken from a previous mouse design from microsoft (i think), the menu? (stolen from creative), that cool zoom into the words function when using the web? has been around for ages in pda’s and archos (but only when its on the iphone people notice it!)

thoug the zune does look like the iphone - could you design a device that looks cool and original, that can rival the ipod touch?

People need to stop complaining about things looking like the iPhone.

What, is the iPhone design not good?

Yes it is. That’s why it’s good that other companies are fallowing.

The iPhone is a dream to me. It would make the PERFECT PMP. If only it had a 80/160gb flash or hard drive option.

Think Archos 605 Wifi. Except in the shell of an iPhone.

THAT my friend would be the PERFECT PMP. No annoying buttons getting in the way, lots of space and all the options you could ever want.

The only reason I havn’t bought the Archos 605 Wifi is because they ruined it with those big buttons on the side. And the wasted space they could have used for a larger screen or to make there PMP more pocket friendly. If they had done that, they would be so great.

That concept Zune looks awesome. It’s about time that they bring out something new. I really like the ipod touch but I have something against getting an ipod. I fthey bring out the new one like this, I’d be willing to sell my old Zune to get the new one.

    Aloha Hey.

it looks way prettier than the other one,,i already got tired if the itouch..

although they should make the sides of the ztouch like the 30g zune..that u can customize it and put like a highlight of another color. don’t just leave it silver and plane..=]

i find this hilarious, first off, that is not a zune concept from the zune team, it is a concept from a zune fan, it was originally posted on zunescene.com, so i am kind of worried about journalistic integrity pmptoday.com exhibits. second, it does look a lot like the iphone, but how different can your device look if it is controlled entirely by a touchscreen.

I really don’t care what the new Zune looks like as long as it functions better than the competition. I want more solid wireless internet integration and the ability to upload videos that weren’t bought from the apple store only! If they can acomplish this along with other inovative functions, I am sold! bottom line: how it looks shouldn’t be a major issue.

First off this is a concept so lets wait to make comments, from what I can see its why to hard to tell… I don’t see it looking like the iphone.

So what can you do that’s original with a rectangular phone/mp3 player? Make it circular? Have the screen be star shaped? Seriously, I don’t see how the iPhone is “original”. It’s an obvious progression: bigger screen, touch screen interface (and hence limited buttons). Anything that follows just those 3 specifications will “look like the iPhone”. C’mon guys, the essentials are in the actual engineering involved in the products; UI, connectivity, compatibility, etc
