Philips GoGear Units are Rhapsody-Enabled
7 01 2008
Philips showed off a whole slew of GoGear units at CES and what grabbed my attention is that they came up with a bunch of Rhapsody-compatible players. They’ll be shipped out with a free 30-day trial period; afterwards, users can opt to pay $14.99/month to take the music anywhere they go. Although all the units have FM radio and voice-recording, I don’t like how they have support for a scant number of file formats. All GoGearunits can play MP3 and WMA files; the 3xxx series can handle protected WMA, protected WMV, and regular WMV, while the 5245 and 6585 has support for AAC.
Other noteworthy units are the GoGear SA5245/5285, which comes in Bluetooth versions for wireless listening, and the GoGear SA6545/6585, which has video-recording capability and TV output.
Watch out for the new GoGear PMPs during the second quarter of 2008, except for the 6145 and the 6185, which you can grab in stores now for $149 and $169 respectively.
