No Deal for China Mobile and Apple on iPhone
14 01 2008Apple will not be launching the iPhone in the world’s biggest cellphone market. China Mobile, the world’s biggest wireless network with over 349.66 million customers, and Apple have parted ways. Why? The smart money points to revenue sharing. Apple has been in conflict with AT&T and its European distributors over its unique revenue-sharing scheme for the iPhone in which Apple gets a cut from iPhone subscriptions. China mobile didn’t like the sound of 20% to 30% cut for Apple.
This means Apple will not be able to tap on the biggest mobile consumer base in the world. The deal would have further raised the value AAPL easily beyond $200. As for China Mobile, it would mean it’ll have the pick of the iPhone clone litter.
