iPhone Nano or iPod Nano Touch, Senco Trading’s touchscreen PMP is a clone. No, it isn’t a clone of an existing product, for sure, but we’ve seen this mock-up of the iPhone Nano before. The 2.8-inch screen is larger than what the photo above would have us believe. No camera, but an FM tuner is built-in. It supports MPEG-4 (AVI), MP3, WMA and WAV, JPEG and BMP. It has a mini SD expansion slot supporting up to 4GB SD cards. This device is only for wholesale. I don’t know about you but if it really looks like what it looks like in the picture, this should be a hot item on retail.

The Asus Eee PC has been cloned and the cloner has done a bang-up job. Same Celeron M 900MHz processor, 512MB RAM, 2GB flash drive, 7-inch screen and 2 pounds weight. Take the Eee PC’s camera out and you have the CybertronPC CM900 mini notebook. How much does this perfect clone job cost? $349.99.
The complete specs of the CM900 after the break.

Somebody over at CrunchGear just discovered that the “biggest problem with the Kindle” is that you can’t read it during take-offs and landings. I’m not entirely sure if the rationale behind that is that it looks like a laptop, therefore bad, or it has the same electronic configurations as a laptop, therefore interfering with the plane’s signal systems, therefore bad. Sounds more like a minor inconvenience than a problem to me. Seeing as I don’t own a Kindle (and probably never will; I’m too old-fashioned to give up my real books) I can’t pinpoint what exactly the “biggest problem” of the device is. Well I read that it doesn’t support PDF files though, which sucks because that’s pretty much the only file format I use when reading digital texts.

Amazon MP3 will go head to head with Apple’s iTunes Store in the international music download market this year. Amazon MP3 is Apple’s nemesis, offering DRM-free music and, guess what, all major labels have a partnership with them. That is, Warner, Universal, Sony BMG and EMI. Amazon MP3 has 3.3 million songs with PC and Mac support. This is a smaller list than iTunes’ catalog of over 6 million songs. But whereas iTunes songs are encoded in 128 kbps with only a fraction (the DRM-less iTunes Plus) encoded in higher 256kbps, all Amazon MP3 songs are encoded in non-DRM 256kbps format. Amazon MP3 songs sell for $.99 each or less. Songs from iTunessell for a higher price in Europe compared to the U.S.

Move past the nondescript appearance and you’ll find that the V5 from Winbase Electronics comes with a pretty nondescript feature set, including support for AVI videos, MP3, WMA, WAV, FLAC and APE audio files (with V.1 and V.2 ID3 tags), and JPEG and BMP images.
The not-quite-exciting device incorporates a QVGA LCD screen of unspecified size and a Rockchip 2608A solution. It also has a USB 2.0 port, and e-book reader, FM radio (with recording) and voice recording capability. Available in 2GB and 4GB capacities, the V5 will give you about 15 hours of audio or five hours of video playback. Dimensions for all models are 87×54x11mm and weight is 76g.

So Nate True fro the iPhone Development Team has published the official iPhone Dev jailbreak for firmware 1.1.3. Needless to say, it’s a risky process, but what needs to be emphasized is that it is riskier than previous jailbreaks. The jailbreak developers themselves warn you in no uncertain terms:
As all upgrades are risky, this one is doubly so. You may have to restore your phone using iTunes and start again if it fails. Make sure to back up first! Read the rest »

It’s a little too early (or maybe too late) for those Christmas price cuts, but I’m not complaining that COWON lowered the prices on their PMPs, making their awesomiffic gadgets more affordable now. The Q5W is still kind of expensive at $509 but at least you save $40 from the price cut. Oh, and you get the GPS cradle (worth $199) for free upon purchase. The iAudio 7 16GB model now only costs $209 - that’s a $90 off the original price! The 60GB A3 is around $40 cheaper as well. So if you’ve always wanted to get yourself a COWON, you better take advantage of the price drop before they change their minds about it or something.

You can pre-order Nintendo DS Lite in black and blue from Circuit City. DS Lite has undergone a few paint changes and hardware additions. This new brilliant color of DS Lite seems a little too bold for the Japanese manufacturer. Nintendo is sticking to the $130 rice for the blue-with-black-trim DS.

The SmartQ T5 is now T5-II De Luxe Edition with a new ADI chip proving TV out and AV in support. It will have gaming with a wireless controller sold separately, though I don;t know what that four-directional gaming button on the left is for. RMVB playback now supports 1024 × 576 pixels. Other than that, it’s the same PMP with a 3-inch QVGA screen. FM tuner built-in. No price has been announced.

Shenzhen YZX’s PV-T245 takes inspiration from Sony’s Walkman line, which isn’t quite novel. Interestingly though, it doesn’t clone an existing device, with the buttons imitating the Walkman logo instead. The PV-T245 only plays MTV videos, but it can convert RM, MOV, VOB, WMV, ASF, MPEG, AVI and DAT files to this format.
The device also supports MP3, WMA and WAV audio tracks with ID3 tags and lyrics display, and unspecified image types. It incorporates a 2.4-inch TFT screen, a USB 2.0 port and a slot for TransFlash cards. FM radio and audio recording capability, and seven EQ settings are included.
